On Saturday April 2, the SIS Gamuda Gealic Football Club travelled to Vietnam Australia School to participate in the annual All Vietnam Schools Cup. The day turned out to be an exciting and successful one for our students, as our Under 13 team won their division defeating Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation 24-13 to claim the championship in their division, while our Under 15 team defeated Vietnam Australia School before narrowly losing to an impressive Blue Dragon team 14-13 in the closing seconds.
Standout players on the day included 6LA’s Kim Ji Woo, the U13 captain and Gamuda’s leading scorer on the day, and Lee Ga Ram of 6LA, whose tough and relentless effort in defense earned him the U-13 most valuable player award. On the U15 team, top players included captain Ngo Gia Bao of 8A, ever present midfielder Nguyen Hoanh Tung of 8LB and slick shot stopping goal keeper Nguyen Vu Thuc of 8B. More important than any individual performances, however, all of Gamuda successes were a result of complete team efforts as the Gamuda players passed the ball selflessly and defended in packs all day long. Coaches James Lally and John Shoulders were very pleased with the event, and would like to thank their players and the families that came to support them both for the fine results on the field and for the virtues of sportsmanship and teamwork that they displayed.
